Greetings once again to the populace of Phoenix Glade from Mistress
Odindisa.

I am please to report that things are moving mightily along. Please
mark your calendars for Wednesday, June 28th, 2006. A polling meeting
will be held at 6:30 p.m. at the Fort Walton Beach Library with the
actual polling process for seneschal starting promptly at 7:00 p.m. I
will be attending and conducting this meeting and will personally over
see the polling process for seneschal of Phoenix Glade. The Fort Walton
Beach Library is located at 185 Miracle Strip Pkwy, SE. Please visit
the library's website at http://www.readokaloosa.org/details_fwb.html if
you need a map and/or directions.

Please pass this information on to those parties who are members of
Phoenix Glade but are not subscribed to this elist. If there are such
folks, I would appreciate contact information for them so they too can
be kept informed.

OK....who can be considered as a candidate for seneschal?

The usual SCA group officer requirements apply:
- a candidate must be a paid member of the SCA, in good standing,
meaning no administrative sanctions. They do not have to be a sustaining
member, but they must have a Popular Chivalry delivered to their home.
- they must be 18 years of age or older
- candidates must also be regular participants of the Shire of Phoenix
Glade. This means that a person does not have to live within the
geographical boundaries of Phoenix Glade as established by zip codes;
however, they must have associated themselves with the Shire and
actively play with the group.
- and for Seneschal, the candidate must have a working phone and allow
the number to be published in Popular Chivalry

Candidate recommendations must be sent to me (see contact information
below) no later than midnight, Wednesday night, June 21, 2006.
Including proof of membership would be most helpful, but if you are
recommending someone other than yourself and don't have it, we have ways
of checking for that.

Who will get to vote?

Except for the phone requirement and membership that delivers you a
Popular Chivalry, all the requirements for candidacy also apply to those
who will be allowed to vote; specifically, a voter must be a paid member
of the SCA and be a regular participant of the Shire of Phoenix Glade.
Again, a regular participant does not have to live within the
geographical boundaries as established by zip codes. Please bring
mundane ID and proof of membership with you to the meeting if you are
planning on voting.

And just so there is no question about it, I'm going to come right out
and say it, non-SCA members will not be given a vote. Like some company
used to say, "Membership has its privileges. Smile

Proxy votes will be accepted so long as they are accompanied by proof of
membership and a copy of mundane identification. Proxies must be
delivered to me directly either by email or U.S. Postal Service no later
than Monday June 26th 2006. Do NOT do both email and conventional mail.
Receipt of multiple proxies will not be accepted and all multiple
proxies from a single name will be discarded. Proxies delivered by a
third party will NOT be accepted.

What happens after the polling?

The polling results will be delivered to Dame Fianna and she will review
them. From that, she will make a determination as to whom she feels
would best serve the shire as seneschal. It is her desire to have
Phoenix Glade's new seneschal in place by July 12, 2006 so I expect her
deliberations to be thorough and as swift as is reasonably possible.

I will be taking contact information at the meeting and as soon as the
deliberation and selection process is complete, we'll let everyone know
as efficiently as we can. We know this is of the utmost interest and
concern to you and will do our best not to leave you in suspense any
longer than necessary.

After the meeting on the 28th, I will be glad to spend time with as many
of you as I can to answer any questions or hear any concerns you might
have. I'll be staying over

Hail and well met to all my fellow Household and Shire members,

The upcoming election is very important and I think it is very important for us to know as much about the candidates as possible. Please pass this e-mail to as many Shire members as possible.

Questions for the Candidates (very important)

If you intend on running for office it would be a huge help for the voters to know where you stand on Shire issues. Below are a few questions that I have for the candidates. Also, it would be very beneficial to know who is running so that absentee voters can get their votes submitted before the cutoff.

- Do you have a goal or vision for the Shire both short and long term?

- What do you feel are the biggest issues within the Shire and how do you plan on fixing them?

- What are your plans for recruiting?

- How do you plan on raising money for the Shire?

- Do you have a plan for better communications among the populous?

- What is your view on secrecy? Do you believe that only officers should be allowed to know what is occurring within the Shire?

- How do you feel about building bridges between the other Shires in our area? Do you have a plan to make this happen?

If you know of someone who plans on running please pass this on and please pass this around to as many members as possible. I think these are important questions and the answers of the candidates should be considered before casting votes.

YIS,

Thomas of Gryphon's Keep

These are my thoughts: I think that at this time the shire really needs to come together with leadership that isn't entrenced in any particular "camp". Whether that is the Household's or the old shire leadership. If we could ALL come together on a neutral party, it would serve the shire best. Who amongst all the people we have communicated with fits that particular criteria is the hard part. I urge you to consider this and take a long hard look at the members of the shire and those around us. This should be a turning point for the shire, NOT a time to pit US angainst THEM no matter what side you feel you are on.
