15 March 2004 Report

Overview

Rangers, and archers in general, have a great deal of potential, however, there are numerous impediments in place preventing this potential from being reached. Continually being told to "Wait until X" and then getting disappointed when "X" comes is seriously degrading the morale and fun factor of archers. While many classes get to take two steps forward, it seems archers are only getting to take one and a half steps with each release.

Concerns

- The reality of bow mechanics in DAoC are at serious odds with the potential.

  • Our best source of DPS cannot be affected by haste buffs.
  • Our best source of DPS is too interruptible.
  • We have no styles to increase our damage output with our best source of DPS.
  • Ranger skill dilution; due to our current lack of groupability, few Rangers can afford to spec bow to 50, further reducing the effectiveness of our best source of DPS in order for us to stand a chance in a melee fight.

- While every class archetype has a specific Master Level that caters to them, archers are left with no such choice.

- Potential not being met, and the pathetic-ness of pathfinding, etc., still leave Rangers undesired in groups.

Specline Issues

- Bow mechanics (range, drawtime, etc) prevent us from assisting meleers with /assist.

- Pathfinding is vastly and extreemely sub-par.

- Archers get nothing for specing in stealth aside from the base skill.

- Blade rangers still have very limited options for styles.

New Issues

- Quiver only works in the ToA client, even though many people use other clients for RvR.

- When switching clients, the arrows in the Quiver do odd things to arrow selection.

- Numerous request that when we go LD or /q, the "stealth state" should be preserved for logging back in.

- Mariasha's Gloves L10 ability is considered "less than worthless" by the Ranger community (especially with Sojouner being available to Rangers).

- Braggart's Bow proc is considered too short and does not do enough damage.

- In general, all bow procs are considered sub-par, even with the increased frequency.

- With the plethora of items to carry, arrow stacking seems too small, even with a quiver. Not overburdened, just out of room!

- Why no Sun Bow summoned by the Belt of Sun?

Other Issues

- Evading arrows are still a concern. Especially remaining stealthed while doing so for assassins.

- CritShot utility suffers due to too many general restrictions (movement, etc.) as well as the added time it takes to line up (reward vs. investment).

- Archers are still suffering in being able to "finish" anything off once they are in melee range. Particularly in regards to defensive abilities.

- Endurance costs are still too high for unstyled damage while shooting a bow.

- Quickness is artificially capped at 250. The class hurt the most by this are archers.

- Reactive enemy "procs" still hit archers at range. Again, particularly unfair, especially considering the nature of some procs.

- Pathfinding Damage Add still scales with range.

- Archers rely too much on basic survival skills through RAs as opposed to Archery enabling RAs.

- Falcon Eye seems bugged beyond the first level of this skill.

- Readdressed: Animation for volley/longshot. Icons for rapidfire and other active skills.

- Lack of versatility in switching bows.

- Halving of evade chances against dual wielding opponents, bug? (Even though this is a benefit for rangers, looking for the answer.)

- Chatlog parsing: differentiating different types of shots individually.

Item Problems

- There is no way for an archer to cap out bonuses for archery speed and damage with multiple Artifacts

- The proc on the Fool's Bow does not function. (Why do I get the feeling this was named for me?)

- The Legendary bows are still a problem! Not only in the stats they give, but the way damage is done. Current answer was extremely unsatisfactory.

- Leveling requirements for many Archer Artifacts seem too restrictive and downright frustrating to our class (i.e. sharks).

- Graphical Quiver.

- Strings on Bows.

- Lack of variety on craftable arrows.

- Lack of ability to craft procs on bows.

Documentation Issues

None at this time.
