Here is a thought from a fellow ranger that I feel is important enough to address here. Please read, and feel free to leave some feedback at this forum if you wish.

I think there is one question which you need to ask Mythic as it will help you in asking for certain changes.

The question is "What is Mythic's vision of a Ranger?"

Is it a solo assassin or a group support class or a mixture of both?

Obviously right now they are none of these. 1v1 either in PVE or RVR Rangers struggle to compete and their group capabilities are pretty much zero.

If the vision is deemed to be a soloer then the Ranger should be seen like this. They are the predators of the realm, one on one, fear them. If you are caught solo against a Ranger whatever the class (depending on skill of player of course) you should die. Now this really isn’t too different to assassins currently. The problem is this is how it use to be and more. Archers didn’t just take out single people they took out groups. Now the problem is if you make it so archers can take out one person then coupled with stealth they will be able to take out a group. This is purely down to range, as an assassin can’t take out a group as he is too close to them when he makes the first kill.

Therefore to ensure that archers don’t run amok, they need to be made so they can’t just simply kill an even target just with their bow. Therefore a Ranger needs to be able to kill with melee as well, so a slight increase in melee damage is needed.

The trouble is even if melee was increased the ranger would still have problems due to the following: No to-hit bonus on bows, frequency of misses and the multitude of counters to arrows. While I agree there should be counters the ability to stop arrows has gone to far. The biggest one currently would be shield blocking.

Also to help the ranger solo they would need some useful bow styles for example snare, root, dot, tracer(target has a light source on them)

If the vision is deemed to a group support role then Rangers need other abilities which no other class possess and are usefully to a group. Firstly and foremost, Rangers are supposed to be trackers or scouts. So a good ability would be tracking, also they should have the ability to cover distances quickly when scouting only (i.e. not to be used in combat). Falconery has been mentioned many times in the past and that can again be used for scouting.

Bow styles are important to aid the group. The ones mentioned above would make a big difference in a group combat situation as a Ranger could stop fleeing opponents.

Rangers also need to either have increased defensive capabilities in melee as currently they are a huge mana sponge. This is due to the fact that in a pve group a ranger mainly melees, as arrows tend to miss (especially in pve), arrows are expensive and arrows are a limited supply.
